My Prezi

As you explore my Prezi, you will gain understanding of my teaching style and beliefs about teaching. My intended audience is for adults, but children will also find the photographs engaging. I am currently homeschooling my children, grades fourth and fifth. I am certified to teach Pre-K through 8th grade and Reading K-12.

I had a great first experience using Prezi and I highly recommend Prezi to anyone looking for a fun and creative way of presenting information to their audience. I really liked how it was easy to use and provided a great-looking final presentation. I didn’t like how I couldn’t just drop in videos I had taken on my iPhone because of limited memory space. Perhaps this is an area I can grow in. My students are excited to begin creating their own Prezis very soon.

Three Great Teacher Blogs

  • Get ready to add some adventure to your teaching! I've listed three teacher blogs below that are sure to give you lots of great ideas for integrating technology into your curriculum.

The first one is Digital: Divide & Conquer at digitaldivideandconquer.blogspot.com. Matt Sutton gives suggestions on how to captivate the attention of your students with technology. Whether it is using the iPad to create writing extensions about favorite student video games or adding in educational YouTube videos, you'll be sure to make learning more interesting. Check out the post on the Science teacher who ate McDonald's for 90 days. I also liked the "Design Your Own Zoo" unit study that Matt created. In addition, he includes a list of digital "must see" resources.

The next blog is called Free Technology for Teachers by Richard Byrne at freetech4teachers.com. There is a plethora of ideas for bringing technology into learning. The suggestions are endless! Byrne captivates all grade levels in his blog. This site is for all teachers! It is a definite resource that will enrich your classroom from apps to ideas for managing your classroom blog.

Monica Burns gives a host of tips for utilizing technology in the classroom on her blog, Class Tech Tips at classtechtips.com. Her posts are simple, yet filled with several resources. There are so many to choose from! It looks like the Ansel & Clair: American Bowl app could be a hit with my students. TED Talks are another resource we will be visiting.

Welcome to my Blog!

Thank you for taking the time to visit my blog! My name is Karen List and this is my first semester at Columbus State. I am a certified teacher and licensed to teach in the following areas: Kindergarten-Elementary (K-8), Pre-Kindergarten and Reading K-12. Currently, I am homeschooling our two children. While this is our sixth year of homeschooling, I have kept my license up-to-date so that I have the option to return to a school system, should I decide to. This class will not only help me to maintain my license, but give me the opportunity to brush up on my technology skills.
My hobbies include traveling with my family and spending lazy summer days on the shores of Lake Michigan. I love to spend time outdoors and in my flower beds. Don't be surprised if you find me frequenting area farmer's markets and visiting Columbus' beautiful Metro Parks. I enjoy listening to music and being involved in my church.
My goal as an educator is to make learning fun and meaningful. I enjoy incorporating student interests into our classroom curriculum and differentiating my instruction to meet student learning styles. As a teacher, I desire to fill the hearts of my students with a love for learning, a desire to accomplish the impossible and a hunger to change history through their unique gifts.
